How JKKN gives back through organised outreach
JKKN runs extensive community programs — weekly free medical and dental camps in rural Namakkal, Salem, Erode villages; literacy programs for adult learners; health awareness campaigns on diabetes, hypertension, oral hygiene; blood donation drives; disaster relief activities; tree plantation and environmental conservation; and village adoption programs for sustained development. Activities are coordinated by NSS, NCC and learner service clubs.
Yes. JKKN dental, nursing, pharmacy and allied health learners participate monthly in rural healthcare camps as part of mandatory community service hours. Under senior learners supervision, learners screen patients, administer basic care, refer serious cases to the JKKN teaching hospital, and collect public health data. This real-world exposure complements learning studio learning and develops clinical empathy.
Yes. JKKN has formally adopted 8 villages across Namakkal, Salem and Erode districts. In each, JKKN provides sustained healthcare access, school infrastructure support, skill development for women and youth, safe drinking water initiatives, and agricultural advisory. Village adoption is funded by the JKKN Rangammal Trust and supported by learner volunteer time of 200+ hours per village annually.
JKKN maintains an active Disaster Response Team that deploys during state and national emergencies. In the 2015 Chennai floods, JKKN nursing and medical teams served affected areas. During COVID-19, JKKN Teaching Hospital operated as a treatment centre. JKKN alumni and learner networks also contribute funds, supplies and volunteer hours during emergencies — reflecting the institution's founding philosophy of service.
Absolutely. Prospective learners can join NSS or volunteer service clubs immediately upon admission. Alumni contribute through — financial donations, mentoring current learners, in-kind professional services (doctors offering free consultations, engineers mentoring startups, lawyers supporting rural legal aid), and organising alumni-led community events. The CSR office at community@jkkn.ac.in facilitates all forms of contribution.
