About the role

Assistant Professor – Physics

Department: Science & Humanities (S&H)
Institution: JKKN College of Engineering & Technology
Subject: Physics

Job Purpose

We are seeking a passionate and learner-focused Assistant Professor of Physics who can transform fundamental physics concepts into engaging, practical, and application-oriented learning experiences for engineering students.

The role involves facilitating strong conceptual foundations in Physics while connecting scientific principles with engineering applications, emerging technologies, experimentation, problem-solving, and AI-enabled learning. The candidate should inspire learners to explore why phenomena occur, how scientific principles can be applied, and where those principles contribute to engineering solutions.

Key Responsibilities

1. Teaching & Learning Facilitation

  • Facilitate engaging and outcome-based Physics learning sessions for undergraduate engineering students.

  • Teach fundamental and engineering-oriented Physics concepts with clarity and practical relevance.

  • Prepare lesson plans, learning resources, assessments, demonstrations, and learner activities.

  • Adopt learner-centric, activity-based, experiential, and application-oriented teaching methodologies.

  • Identify different learning needs and provide appropriate academic support.

2. Practical & Experimental Learning

  • Conduct Physics laboratory sessions and demonstrations effectively.

  • Help learners understand scientific principles through experimentation and observation.

  • Design simple experiments, demonstrations, simulations, and problem-based activities.

  • Encourage learners to analyse experimental results and relate them to real-world engineering applications.

  • Promote scientific thinking, measurement skills, analytical reasoning, and evidence-based conclusions.

3. AI-Enabled Learning

  • Integrate appropriate AI and digital tools into Physics teaching and learning.

  • Develop AI-assisted learning resources, simulations, question banks, visual explanations, and personalised learning activities.

  • Guide students in using AI responsibly for scientific exploration, problem-solving, research, and learning.

  • Encourage learners to validate AI-generated information using scientific principles and evidence.

  • Use technology to enhance—not replace—conceptual understanding and critical thinking.

4. Engineering Application & Interdisciplinary Learning

  • Establish connections between Physics and engineering disciplines such as:

    • Mechanics

    • Optics and Photonics

    • Electricity & Magnetism

    • Semiconductor Physics

    • Materials Science

    • Nanotechnology

    • Quantum Physics

    • Lasers and Fibre Optics

    • Renewable Energy

    • Sensors and Instrumentation

  • Collaborate with engineering faculty to develop interdisciplinary learning experiences.

  • Encourage students to explore Physics-based solutions to real-world engineering challenges.

5. Student Mentoring & Project Guidance

  • Mentor students in academic development, technical activities, and project-based learning.

  • Guide learners in Physics-related mini-projects, innovation activities, exhibitions, hackathons, and competitions.

  • Encourage students to convert scientific concepts into prototypes, demonstrations, and practical solutions.

  • Support students in developing scientific communication and presentation skills.

6. Research & Innovation

  • Engage in research activities in relevant areas of Physics and interdisciplinary science.

  • Publish research papers in reputed journals and conferences.

  • Explore opportunities for funded research, consultancy, patents, and collaborative projects.

  • Encourage undergraduate students to participate in research and innovation activities.

  • Contribute to solution-oriented research involving Physics and emerging technologies.

7. Academic & Institutional Responsibilities

  • Participate in curriculum planning, academic reviews, assessments, and quality-improvement initiatives.

  • Maintain academic records, course files, laboratory records, and student performance documentation.

  • Participate in departmental meetings, workshops, seminars, conferences, and faculty development programmes.

  • Contribute to student clubs, science activities, institutional events, and interdisciplinary initiatives.

  • Support accreditation and institutional quality-assurance activities.
